Advancing Solid Rocket Propulsion System Design Using ...
Solid rocket propulsion systems are important for a wide variety of civilian and military purposes. Funding for system design and development has been significantly reduced however, compared with early development programs, which dictates limited testing and ambitious development schedules. Design approaches have also evolved, moving from those based primarily on empirical rules and relationships to more mechanistic, physics-based simulation methodologies. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and multi-physics simulation tools help meet both these new demands. First, ‘numerical’ experiments performed using CFD complement physical experiments and minimize the need for expensive physical design and development testing, and the physical experiments still performed can be better designed using CFD to better satisfy test objectives and minimize design uncertainty. Second, CFD inherently supports the mechanistic, physics-based design approaches. And third, CFD capabilities have significantly improved. Not that long ago, if you wanted a computational tool you needed to write large parts of it yourself, act as an IT expert, and run the tool on a mainframe that had less capability than your smartphone. Now, faster computers, improved algorithms, and commercial codes that alleviate the need for in-house software development continues to expand the range of problems that can be economically analyzed with CFD. ANSYS 17.0 bringt umfangreiche Verbesserungen im ANSYS SpaceClaim Direct Modeler. Im neuen Release werden neben der Geschwindigkeit für das Design auch die Konzeption, die Bearbeitung und die Vorbereitung von Geometrie für die Simulation deutlich verbessert. Neue Funktionen wurden hinzugefügt, einschließlich Skripting und Werkzeuge zur Reparatur von Kanten oder Linien und zum Erstellen von Schweißnähten in Shell-Modellen (Oberflächenmodellen). Vorhandene Analysewerkzeuge, wie beispielsweise das Aufteilen von Flächen (Imprinting), Erstellen von Mittelflächen (Midsurfacing) und Unterstützung von Balkenelementen (Beam support) wurden ebenfalls verbessert.
